A depressing but well-documented preface: murders of young people in the United States between the ages of 12 and 17 increased 116% in the last three years. Most young people were murdered by someone they knew and young people at these ages were nearly three times as likely as adults to be victims of violent crimes. The lifetime cost for all people in this age group is now over $200 billion dollars. Statistics like these have brought violence to the forefront as a public health issue. The event of September 11th has focused even greater on cultural differences. Yet, there remains a tremendous gap in the area of teaching cross-cultural and conflict resolution skills. To create effective changes, individuals must learn how to apply techniques to resolve conflicts before they worsen. Matthew 5: 9 declares, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God," and Romans 12:18 instructs, "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."
Being in trouble all of my life, the training helped me to think about doing better. I also helped my friends that were in trouble all the time. They did not think I was a snitch, but someone to talk to.
