South Los Angeles has some of the most diverse and historic neighborhoods in California. Our revitalization
strategy reinforces the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the area and also builds upon its emerging
real estate market.
West Angeles CDC is in the planning stages to build an additional 600 residential units for a portfolio total
of approximately 1,000 units over the next three years.
The Housing and Economic Department will be actively involved in building three specific types of housing
and one hybrid type of development to capitalize on market advantages that are available based on location
and demand. These housing types are for sale attached and detached dwellings, rental apartments for
families, and rental apartments for seniors. For sale dwellings will be targeted primarily to the
first-time homebuyer market. The last product type to be addressed will be in the area of mixed-use
developments consisting of office, retail and residential uses. The mixed-use development model
takes advantage of smart growth policies, relaxed city regulations, and transit-oriented development
(T.O.D.) opportunities in our target area.
