The West Angeles Community Development Corporation Unity Award was created in 1995 to celebrate
those individuals, families and corporations who, through their selfless service, charitable giving and special
activities, embody the best in socially responsible community building. The Unity Awards Banquet is a black tie
gala event held at the beautiful Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel to the delight of over 500 guests.
Each year on the first Thursday in February, West Angeles CDC honors a distinguished "Person of the Year". This
man, woman or family best exemplifies the true meaning of faithful service to humanity as well as unparalleled
achievement in their chosen endeavors. Past honorees include Denzel & Pauletta Washington, Magic & Cookie
Johnson, Samuel L. and LaTanya Jackson and Mayor Richard Riordon. The "Outstanding Corporate Citizen"
award is presented to a corporation that has distinguished itself as a leader in innovation, charitable
giving and diversity in the community. Past honorees include Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, AT&T,
Southern California Edison and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
