VITA
West Angeles Community Development Corp. offers the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program
to the community each year with the help of grants from various funders. The VITA program helps
taxpayers, who cannot afford professional tax preparers, get their individual simple tax returns
prepared FREE by trained community volunteers. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) trains the
volunteers and offers support to insure a successful filing season. In 2006 the generosity of
HSBC Bank and Conoco Phillips made it possible for our program to inform the community of the
EITC (earned income tax credits) available to them.
LAW DAY
(FREE LEGAL SERVICE OFFERED TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS)
West Angeles Community Development Corp (CDC) offers "Law Day" to the Community every
quarter. The CDC petitions volunteer attorneys to provide FREE legal services on a 'one-on-one'
basis for most areas of law. The areas of Law that are offered are usually:

Wills and Trust
Family Law
Domestic Partnerships Law
Bankruptcy/ Credit
Workman's Comp. |

Conservatorships
Powers of Attorney
Criminal Law
Landlord/Tenant
Juvenile Law |
Legal counseling begins at 10:00am and concludes around 2:30pm. Many community members take
advantage of the free services and according to the follow-up questioners; many said they
received enough information to have their legal issues resolved.
The CDC is grateful to the attorneys for their commitment and spirit of service.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION EDUCATION
Domestic Violence (DV) issues are significant issues of justice and safety for all communities. Our
research shows us the profound impact these issues have on the health and wellbeing of the African
American and Latino communities.
Prevention of domestic violence is the key objective of our "Promoting Healthy Families" education
program. West Angeles Community Development Corp. (CDC) proposes to increase the awareness of
domestic violence and prevention measures to promote change in our community through our Domestic
Violence Education Program. We believe our program is unique because our objective is to educate
designated groups in the African American and Latino population: 1) Pastors/ Church Leaders, 2)
Community residents and Leaders and 3) the adolescents in our middle and high schools.
The CDC teaches and makes resources available to these targeted groups. We expect to see a
decrease in family violence as a result of the various workshops, awareness campaigns, and
dramatic play productions. West Angeles Community Development Corp. believes the resulting
impact will be that social intolerance toward domestic violence will continue to grow.
